Finished Magazine Advert

Here is the finished product of my Magazine Advert. I have managed to keep to my original idea of Red/Black, however, have also incorporated a hand drawn abstract piece which is supposed to support my Album Title: Faceless Society. I paid effort to maintain the theme of the 'unknown' as I have dismissed the stereotypical conventions of the bands photographs. In fact, there aren't any photographic medias used within it but a combination of what I, myself, have drawn and copy-right free vectors found on the net.

I think I have managed to improve my Photoshop skills immensely! I never knew how to used Photoshop before I'd begun the task and it was challenging at first, however, now I have evolved into a much better media student with sufficient knowledge of yet another software. I hope to use what I have learned and advance it further now that I know the foundational elements of it.

This experience has added a lot to my media understanding of the music industry and the advertising aspects of it. I can conclude now that it is if not the most, one of the most important aspects of the system. Without the advertisement then the communication of the band/art is hard and in order to succeed in this you have to spend a lot of time, effort and most importantly thought into constructing your creative ideas - especially if you have no budget, it is even harder than if you do.

other inspirations #: art poster

  • The colour co-ordination in this poster is brilliant!
  • I aim to also use red in my ancillary task as it is a very strong, bold colour
  • The political tone in the poster has attracted me to using similiar technqiues in order to compose my own one

other inspirations#: Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane; photograph analysis

I like the attitude in this photograph and see potential to transform it as an album-cover. This photograph has added to inspire me to use black/white and to place an image for my band.
  • The placing of the subject in a mid/long shot allows the audience to concentrate on merely that
  • The blending of the subject along with the background hints at the character of the 'band'
  • Graffitti shows the location of the band members, here it is possible to see a deserted place, and urban place

other inspirations#: Consume, Obey, DIE!

  • This piece has also used colors which stand each other out - yellow & black
  • Like the 'Gaza' Poster, it has also included a political tone
I'm not keen on the colour yellow, but black and red seem suitable for the ideas I have in mind. I like the use of the insect which looks like one to suck the blood our of those 'consuming'. I think such a poster or at least certain elements of such a poster will surely engage the eye of those looking due to the BOLD and capitalized font.

It is important that when creating my magazine advert, the eye of the audience is caught/engaged in order to sell successfully and gain recognition from society.

other inspirations#; political poster

Though this isn't a music poster, it's something I came across whilst researching and wouldn't mind incorporating some of its concepts into my own ancillary task.
  • The Red agains the yellow has managed to make the angled font stand out and more attractive to the audiences eye
  • The illustration on the poster manages to highlight the main message of the poster without words or photographs but two simple drawings
  • It's minimalistic, not busy, has used and followed only a three-colour way of working

Experimenting on Photoshop: Logo

This isn't my first attempt in creating the logo for my music video, but it's what I have managed to achieve through my first attempt of using Photoshop.

It's pretty difficult in trying to find what you're actually looking for and the layout isn't exactly friendly, but I think i'm managing well as you learn as you play around more.

Here, I have used a dark green against a black background and also small usage of the colour red to emphasise again the genre of music as well as the style of the bad which will be confirmed when I complete the magazine advert.

other inspirations #; unite against gun/knife crime logo

This is something I came across when doing further research into marketing my product. Though the message which it implies differs from 'hypnotize' and is about gun&knife crime,it could be related as it contains a deep MEANING.

In terms of graphics, the simplicity of it inspired me. Ironically, red is also used which confirms that this colour is brilliant to get the target audience invovled with your produce. Like wise to my aim of preventing stereotypical characters, this advertisement also dismisses the use of actors, who in this case, most probably would have been a young black teenager.

I feel that i'll adapt this simple format, perhaps add some form of animation or extra computerized effect in order to persuad my target audience to purely concentrate on their individual interpretation of my product and message, rather than leaving room for sociey's influence over it.
